95 North - Chasing My
Dreams (LAR-085)
Washington DC's 95
North return to Large after a 2 year hiatus with this vocal
smash Chasing My Dreams. Recognize those gorgeous vocals?
Yep, it is the one and only Marie Tweek from the legendary
UK outfit The Rurals. Side A starts off with a smooth
old school styled vocal groove complete with guitar solo. Side B
sees 95 North back in dub mode with the Red Dub followed
by a jumpy guitar jam.

95 North have The Rural's
Marie Tweek on vocals here, and her weightless voice sits well over
the sturdy, bassy groove. As always from the North, the beats are
tight, the vibe deep and smooth. They lay on some slick jazzy guitar
soloing too, which works well with the smooth flavas, though as
an accompaniment to house it's a sound that personally I'm getting
a little tired of. Turn the record over, and find the strong dub,
which leans more towards the dancefloor: again a sturdy groove given
drive by the snappy beats, and prodding keys, vocal snip and bass.
Again, solid stuff that does the business, but I need a little more!

After an absence of two
years, DC’s 95 North return to Large with this vocal stormer
featuring The Rural’s Marie Tweek. The title track has bouncing
bassline, disco licks, freestyling vocals and awesome guitar solo
in a soulful summery vibe at a steady 123bpm. For dub fans, there’s
the Red Dub with a more minimal staccato arrangement with vocal
snippets and the blissful Guitar Dub with great arrangement changes
and stunning guitar solo. 4/5)

The 'Chasing My Dreams'
mix kicks in with smash 'n' grab beats that pound like a Viagra
headache. Vocalist Marie Tweek's vocal - of The Rurals fame - is
the sedative to calm the solid beats a little. Those beats somehow
manage to stay afloat in a sea of percussive shakes, rattles and
crunches that work up into a right percussive lather. A guitar solo
sails through the choppy waters and really jazzes up the proceedings
for much of the latter half of the cut. The 'Red Dub' finds the
snare almost in a whip mode as they lash the clanking keyboard work-out
severely. The 'Guitar Dub' opts for skipping drums and a wah wah
guitar workout that is bound together with long soft string parts.
Now the guitar really speaks in jazz lingo as it lazily slurps and
dances around the pronounced and crisp beats of those tuff little
snares. 3/5
