Solar House - Magic Of The City (LAR-080)
Taken straight off of the full length album of the same name, Solar
House brings forth a jazzed out odyssey with lead vocals from Angie
Reid entitled "Magic of the City". This is
a lush and sensual track featuring trumpet, stand up bass, and the
unmistakable beats and chords of Solar House. For the remix duties,
the legendary Kerri Chandler re-works the vibe and takes
it deep.

The label says it all really, doesn't it? The A&R department
at their stable must be loving their jobs if the standard of the
past material on the label is anything to go by. Imagine all that
unissued material landing on the doormat each morning, then there's
Kerri Chandler's input also. Heaven. Here Solar House get all haunted
with this dreamy deep house cut with vocals from Angie Reid, who
offers up a real jazzy vocal in the mode of Billie Holiday. A busy
bobbling bass works its ass off like a cork on the ocean wave, up
down, up down, around and around it goes, never settling into any
lengthy notes. The snare snips are little gritty things with a sandpaper
texture to them and they drop in all the right places giving a real
nice swing to the muted horn and conga-fuelled 'Kerri Chandler Remix'.
Talking of swing, the 'Original Mix' finds the snares in a more
traditional sounding flava but they are splashed all over the road.
Jazz piano, vibes and extra percussion help out that muted horn.
The 'Solar Dub' finds our horn player going off at a different tangent
from the other mixes as he/she feeds of the whining synth solo.
