Dennis Ferrer - Soul Collectives Vol. 1 (LAR-056)
I am pleased to announce the debut EP from Dennis Ferrer
on Large Music. For those of you who follow Sfere Recordings, you
already know about this enormous talent. If you have a background
in techno, his name should be familiar too. This native New Yorker
won widespread critical acclaim, as one of the founders of Synewave
Records in the early nineties.
How does a techno producer turn to deep house you ask? He meets
Kerri Chandler in a music store, strikes up a conversation
and gradually becomes a self-proclaimed "Student". While Kerri's
influence is present in Dennis Ferrer's music, you can hear a fresh
new approach in Dennis' sound. I think that his background in techno
mixed with his love for deep soulful house creates a bold and very
exciting mix. Keep a very watchful eye on this one in 2000.

Dennis shows that he is more than just Kerri Chandler's protege
with this release. "Unconditional Love" is the opener, a deep garage
vocal anthem which just builds and builds. "Give It Up" rocks with
cool flute solo and exuberant vocal refrain, "NJF" combines tribal
beats with jazzy piano and "All The Things I Look 4" is tighter
than a flea's arse, funky beats and bass propping up positive lyrics
and sublime organ riffing. All in a stunning package, soulful, deep
and exemplary in its production and arrangements. 10/10
